TV Advertising is split into two areas. The first is the production (the creative) and the second part is buying airtime.

How much does it cost to film a TV advert?

Each production is different, but as a general estimation expect to spend about a quarter of your total advertising campaign budget on making the advert.

How is the TV Advert made?

1) Concept and script with approval from Clearcast to ensure compliance with BCAP codes.

2) Pre-production which includes the sourcing of actors, locations, props, filming schedule and any other aspects which need to be considered and incorporated into the creative.

3) The Production which includes the shoot, edit, motion graphics, music.

4) Clearance of the final creative to ensure compliance with UK TV Advertising Standards.

How much does the airtime cost?

The costs of the advertising spots vary immensely depending on:

(1) the length of the advertisement where a 10 second advert costs around half the cost of a 30 second advertisement

(2) the TV channel itself and whether your advertisement is run regionally or nationally.

ITV campaigns can be launched for as little as £1,500 and a broad group such as 'All Adults' on Channel 5 can be bought at an average cost of around £6 per thousand viewers / or a little under a penny each.

(3) the time of day your TV advert is on where early morning is the cheapest, and the evening the most expensive.

(4) the time time of year where the run up to Christmas is the most expensive, where August and January are cheapest.
